 Essential Psych Solutions

With life becoming more and more hectic due to increased demands and responsibilities, people may find themselves becoming stressed, "burnt out" or feeling out of control. This may result in increased physical tension, poor concentration, anger, irritability and difficulty coping with life's challenges. We can assist you to:

  • Recognise and manage stress
  • Introduce and undertake relaxation exercises
  • Learn strategies to minimise future stress

Meditation and Mindfulness

With formal training in medical hypnosis obtained through the College of Medical Hypnosis, combined with studies in Buddhism and mindfulness meditation, we can teach you the practice of calming the mind to help with various issues:

  • Self-esteem and confidence building
  • Relaxation and sleep improvement
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Pain management
  • Achieve mental clarity and awareness

Quick and Easy Stress Reducers

1. Have a quiet, pleasant sounding alarm to wake you up

2. If mornings are rushed, get up earlier, giving you more time

3. Take a deep breath and relax each time you look at your watch

4. Take the time while you are in the toilet to breathe and scan your body for tension

5. Try to slow down when you eat, talk, drive or move - be mindful of each moment

6. Don't arrange to do too many things close together or at the same time

7. Off-load non-essentials

8. Eliminate behaviours that don't save that much time, or achieve a great deal Eg: frenzied lane-changing, beating the traffic lights, overtaking people while walking in a shopping centre

9. Take a break from tasks to meditate, stretch, walk, relax or enjoy the moment

10. Buy a packet of small adhesive labels. Print "R" on each and stick onto mirrors, the steering wheel of your car, the fridge etc to remind you to relax throughout the day

11. Give time to yourself, to do the things you enjoy. Do them just for fun without the need to compete or be the best

12. Set time limits for when your children or family members can bother you Eg: in 15 minutes you can nag me as much as you want

13. Learn to say NO - but not indiscriminately. People who can say NO often say yes and feel good about it

14. Reduce anger towards others. Tolerance and acceptance are good for your health

15. Let things go - especially those things that don't concern you and are out of your control
