A couple of year's back, former US President Bill Clinton nursed a VB with Will Smith and Kinky Friedman in The Basement's Blue Note bar before taking in a blisteringly fine show from American trumpeter extraordinaire and big band leader, Maynard Ferguson.
Now, that's a lot of famous names in one sentence but then Blue Note is the legendary recording label that's been home to the likes of Louis Armstrong, Chet Baker, Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Kurt Elling, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Dr John, Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock Nora Jones, Peggie Lee, Thelonius Monk, Charles Mingus, Art Pepper, Charlie Parker, Nina Simone, and a host of other jazz and blues luminaries through time and currently with Norah Jones and Nigel Kennedy.
Check out the album (and that's from the vinyl days of yesteryear) covers gallery lining the walls of the Blue Note bar of The Basement. Quite a bit of history, but the Blue Note bar is a fresh, intimate and contemporary space to party up or provide a brilliant escape hatch when you might want to take a break from the activity of the main room, and an excellent place to slide into one of the booths and sip a cocktail.
The Blue Note is also available for your private cocktail party or function.
Whatever you do, when you visit The Basement don't forget to visit the Blue Note bar just to the right of the stage.
