In 1997, Stavros (Steve) Skaramoutsos, who is the proud owner of our self-established restaurant 'Ambrosia Seafood Restaurant', decided to venture into the olive oil industry. He bought a 40 acre property in Silverdale which was bare and plain and without any produce. In only two years, he transformed it into a beautiful landscape of rolling hills covered with 4000 olive trees.
At Ambrosia Olive Farm our aim is to produce an organic olive oil which is by far superior to most olive oils around the world. We have done a great deal of research as to which method is the best for growing and for producing quality olives and, therefore, quality olive oil.
We have imported an 'ecological cold pressing' machine. This machine produces only premium virgin olive oil. Most oil presses use heat and chemical extraction processes to extract more oil, but this in turn spoils the oil because it also kills most of the natural antioxidants and enzymes found in oils that are so good for you. Our machine does not use any heat or chemicals at all and all you get is pure natural olive oil straight from the olive.
Recently our oil was judged among many oils around Australia and some from overseas. We were the only entrants to score high enough to receive a Silver Medal, and no-one received a gold - Silver International Standards Award 2001 - South Australia.
