The Sydney Jewish Museum, recognised as a
world-class museum, opened in 1992 and is an
integral part of cultural life in Sydney.
Two permanent exhibitions are presented
THE HOLOCAUST
A tragedy for Jews and all of humanity, the visitor confronts both the best and worst in mankind as history unfolds over six levels. Video monitors featuring eye-witness testimonies, original objects, and above all, interaction with the Holocaust survivor guides helps to paint a clear and vivid picture of the time when insanity and chaos ruled the world.
CULTURE AND CONTINUITY
The Australian Jewish experience from 1788 to the present time. The story is told using interactive audio visual displays, life size sculptures and dioramas. Jewish culture and rituals are authentically represented in three dimensional exhibits. See a traditional wedding, the hand-written Torah (Five Books of Moses) and how a Shabbat evening is celebrated.
