For over 50 years, Kingsford Transport and Bill Aitkenhead have operated hire cars and/or buses from Sydney Airport.
The company - now headed by Bill Aitkenhead's son Gregory, has over 40 buses and employs 17 staff and many drivers.
Bill Aitkenhead, now in his mid-80s, is still actively involved in the day to day running of Kingsford Transport . Retirement is not on his agenda.
For 22 years, Bill served as chairman and executive representative of the hire car section of the Motor Traders Association of NSW. He was also president of the MTA from 1975 to 1978. Bill was also at the forefront of developing many organisations and structures that underpin Australia's fast growing tourism industry.
Today, Kingsford Transport carries 20,000 passengers each month on forward journeys to the airport alone. It has also expanded into providing private and government contract transport services.
The company also provides ground transport for many airline crews and has done so since the beginning.
Bill Aitkenhead adds with pride:
"In over 50 years we have never had a day's strike and
there has never been a day we have not operated."
