 Hotel Unilodge Sydney

Old building... New Attitude

Built in 1904, Hotel UniLodge Sydney is better known in the community as "The Old Grace Bros store", a reference to its origins as the flagship for the Grace Bros department store chain. The building itself has had a long and colourful history as a department store, hosting everything from the arrival of the American Fleet in 1908 to war-time farewell dances and visits by Queen Elizabeth II. It has been a focal point for the suburb of Glebe and a catalyst for its growth for almost 100 years and was often referred to as "the Western Gate of the city".

Grace Bros Broadway operated as a department store for 90 years until its closure in 1995 and following a revolutionary yet sympathetic development by Walker Australia Pty Ltd was reborn in 1997 as Hotel UniLodge Sydney. The floors which once housed dress, calicoes, manchester and millinery (where the largest stock of untrimmed hats and most beautiful assortment of flowers, feathers and trimmings could be seen) are now occupied by 110, 3½ star hotel rooms and over 470 permanent residences.
