Wharf 1 Theatre - Sydney Theatre Company
Pier 4/5 Hickson Rd, Sydney
This year the Wharf Revue are challenged by a Howard-less political climate, and, with not an oversized-eyebrow joke to be made, they explore the presently green pastures of public agenda, uncovering enough spoof-worthy material to plug the hole in the ozone layer.
Waiting for Garnaut is by Jonathan Biggins, Drew Forsythe and Phillip Scott and is their environmentally conscious laugh at climate change, petrol and all things eco-friendly for which such necessary targets as Kevin Rudd and Morris Iemma are lampooned with wit and irony.
Joined by Amanda Bishop, the boys of the Wharf Revue call on Dr Iemma to rescue the state of NSW, place Brendan Nelson at the centre of an underground bio-pic and check up on Sister Kevin Rudd who is seeking the word of Mother Keating while in residence with the Von Trapp working family. Not content with local luminaries, the Wharf Revue shares the joke with Barack Obama - who gets all hip hop in da White House - and the Harare Gospel choir as they honour Robert Mugabe with a performance of 'The Lyin' King'.
