The 17th Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon has always been a part of the two-lap course through Sydney's CBD, but this year, it's featuring as the starting and finishing lines, and a lively hub for the whole day.
From Hyde Park North, down College Street, around the Harbour, past Mrs Macquarie's Chair, through the Rocks, passing the Harbour Bridge, through Sydney's financial district, and finally along Macquarie Street back to Hyde Park, the 21.1km event always attracts Australia's best runners, and is already full. Both last year's winners, Brett Cartwright and Anna Thompson, are planning to defend their titles, but the upcoming Beijing Olympics could see them facing some serious competition. Cash prizes include $5,000 for first place, $3,000 for second, $2,000 for third, and $1,000 for fourth place getters.
