Green Park Hotel
Editorial Review
The Green Park has become something of an institution in Sydney's Darlinghurst for all the right reasons. Essentially it's just a pub in an area undergoing a boom of coolness, unseen since the heroin chic of the early '90s. But it's the way the patrons and staff so clearly don't give a damn that makes this place priceless.
Split into four main areas, it's not difficult to glean a sense of hierarchy among the punters. The beer garden, as usual comes up trumps every time. Beer gardens as a drinking environment generally encourage us to relax, converse and coalesce in a united front against the constraints of being indoors. The Green Park's area seems to have been purpose built for intimacy. It has plenty of obstacles to lean and sit on, sympathetic lighting, but when the bar is pumping on a Sunday afternoon, it gets difficult to move in and out of.
For those who do actually prefer the great indoors, you can relax on squishy lounges, play a game of pool, or settle in on one of the handful of tables in the front bar and watch the diversity of Victoria Street roll on by. It's an inspiring way to spend an evening. The Green Park proves truly that you don't need to drink schmiddy's, top-shelf vodka or boutique imported beers to have yourself a damn good time.
