Zeta Bar

Editorial Review

Plush and luxurious, it's hard to stifle urges to swan around the Zeta Bar and call everyone "Darlink!" while sipping from a devlishly delicious Manhattan. Kick up those Italian loafers and settle in for the night.

Editorial Review

Wooden panelled high ceilings; unisex toilets; curtained off private areas; stand up bar and lounge … welcome to the Zeta Bar, a trendy, Sydney cocktail bar, one of the "big Sydney three", apparently. Well you learn something new everyday. So as not to mislead you, though, redeeming qualities come thick and fast at this venue.

This is, of course, once you have emptied your wallet onto the bar, signed a waiver agreeing to bankruptcy and also proclaimed you are not adverse to the odd mixed drink or two. It's a hefty twenty dollar average per cocktail, but for the magical burnt pineapple and cracked pepper martini you'll happily throw your rent money on the bar. Or, for the insane passionfruit and almond cocktail you'll probably forego buying birthday presents. You will, and feel it was truly worth it.

The posh food offerings are served in a way that makes you feel special and not only that, gives you the ability to try more cocktails. See it as an adventure! Amiable bar staff will even help you choose the best cocktail for you, and they'll be on the money every time. After an hour or so, if you go on a less busy evening, you'll feel like a guest at an extremely loaded friend's family home.

Drift to the outside balcony to sip away and admire the stunning glance of the QVB. Wander to the other end of the bar and lounge comfortably while gulping down your coriander drink, looking upwards through the glass panels to a cool cityscape. You could visit ten bars in one evening and spend the same amount of money, but you may as well just stay here and move gradually amongst the various sections and buy another cocktail. Your senses will thank you as much as the bartenders.

Donna G: Tres cool bar! And hot hot men of a certain age. Great place to go if you're looking for relaxed atmosphere & a classy drink. Balcony helps for smokers too. (04 April 2008)
