Editorial Review
Offering a broad shelf of high-ground over the bustle of Pitt Street, the Verandah Bar is as alfresco as any wicket this end of the city could get. Breezily elevated at tree-top level, the balcony and the well designed interior both climb with something of a garden quality - the relaxed timber tones, chilled beats and pulped-rose decor rouging the ambience with stylish kudos.
The venue is comprised of two bars - a main bar and wine bar (with restaurant). The main bar has a great range of Australian wines along with a good range of beers. The salubrious wine bar, meanwhile, excels with a comprehensive list of local and international varietals, from a French Loire Valley Sancerre to full-bodied Sicilian reds. The Restaurant also specializes in French-influenced cuisine, as well as a degustation menu.
The main bar runs a BBQ theme throughout the menu, from Grilled Lamb Kebabs with pitta bread and tzaziki to Chargrilled Wagyu Beef Burgers. The Verandah has also jumped the bargain steak wagon, with rump steak specials (served with bearnaise or peppercorn sauce) on Mondays and Tuesdays. And what city bar would be complete without a Nachos and Margharita night on Thursdays? At the end of the day (which is what this place is designed for) the Vernadah is an enjoyably refreshing playground, offering a berth of cool spaciousness to savour one's tippling enjoyment. And if you're in the area on a Friday afternoon drop in for some live music from 5pm.
