Slip Inn

Editorial Review

Famed primarily as the meeting point of a Danish royal and Australia's own princess (that's Mary, not Guy Sebastian), the Slip Inn is also known as the place you can slip into to...um...slip in...If you get my drift.

Editorial Review

Slip Inn has become something of an institution in the city for after-work drinks or pre-big night out starters. At first glance it may seem a bit cold-shouldered, but there's one thing the Slip Inn staff have nailed to a tee, and that's how to serve good drinks, fast.

Catering primarily to the after-work crowd during the week, the downstairs beer garden/cocktail bar pumps out the classics as well as a notable selection of boutique beers. While you won't be getting change from $5 for a schooner, you'll probably do better here than most other neighboring institutions. And it's guaranteed they'll have at least one of your favourites.

By far, the Slip Inn's biggest draw card is the beer garden. In fact it has to be one of the best in the city - huge, leafy, plenty of chairs and within reasonable proximity of the bar. For the indoor types there's the upstairs bar as well, with old-school English pub style rooms aplenty and big screen televisions for those who can't go without. If you get in early enough you can also take advantage of a fairly up-market but generous bistro menu, without being flanked on all fronts by the mid-week boozers.

Slip Inn is a great spot for a drink or several. Despite getting the feeling that the crowd is either on the way to bigger and better things, or closing off for the evening, the staff create an admirably comfortable bar for the amount of punters they get through the door. Worth keeping in mind.
