Editorial Review

Neil Young is one of the most iconic singer/songwriters of the 20th century. He first came to prominence in 1967 as a member of Buffalo Springfield and has rarely been out of the spotlight since.

While Buffalo Springfield enjoyed critical and commercial success, the group were plagued by immigration problems, i.e. they were Canadians illegally living in the US.
When one of the members was eventually deported, the group went their separate ways and Young emerged as a solo singer/songwriter. Actually, that's not entirely true, he spent the next few years in a blur of projects and collaborations; among the more notable was the formation of Crazy Horse and his work with Crosby, Stills and Nash - which became Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

That manic energy pretty much kept Young going for the next decade, and he released numerous albums and singles throughout the '70s. He also became involved in film and directed several movies under the pseudonym Bernard Shakey.

Skip ahead a couple of decades and Young is still going strong. The last five years in particular have seen him return to the spotlight. His protest album, Living With War, drew a lot of attention when it was released in 2006 and he's since toured as part of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, revived Crazy Horse and directed a documentary. Frankly, he shows no sign of slowing down.
