Sea Treasure Seafood Restaurant

Editorial Review

The large tanks, full of fish and crustaceans, decorate the entrance of this eatery, and the menu is similarly focused on sea critters. Yum cha dominates during the day.

Editorial Review

A departure from the glittery brashness of other large Chinese eateries in the area, Sea Treasure boasts an elegant design in soothing pale greys and contrasting black, although the napkins are still reassuringly pink. Near the reception hangs Sea Treasure's rows of shiny awards, including their coveted SMH chef's hat.

In one corner of the room are the tanks housing live lobsters and crabs, so large they'll make your wallet feel lighter just looking at them. There are baskets of live scallops, oysters, parrotfish, coral trout, barramundi, pippies, abalone and eel as well. Cooked simply and served with condiments such as chilli salt, oyster sauce and garlic butter, the seafood is absolutely superb. If you'd prefer to contend with the vast a la carte menu there are several gems worth trying: delicate steamed shumai dumplings, deep-fried pork spare ribs with house-made orange sauce, succulent roast pigeon with spiced salt and black vinegar, and vegetarian dishes using an array of perfectly fresh, seasonal vegetables. Adventurous diners can try stir-fried whelk (marine snail) with Chinese greens. Yum cha lunches are busy any day of the week, offering a variety of dim sum to rival the best in Chinatown.

Donald Smith: Excellent Dinner for two,(Birthday) service excellent, Prawns and others foods excellent. Wine a little expensive. Cost $140.0 for all we could eat plus Chinese Tea and Red Wine. Excellent. (25 October 2008)
