Cruise Restaurant

Editorial Review

There’s not much that can compete with million-dollar views of the Opera House, but this restaurant’s refurb gives it a run for its money.

Editorial Review

Located in the Overseas Passenger Terminal where the cruise ships dock at Circular Quay, Cruise Restaurant shifted levels, underwent a makeover and changed its name before it found its niche. Now trading under its original name, the venue seems to have gained solid footing despite its proximity to the water, and has the 2006 Restaurant of the Year award from the Australian Hotels Association NSW to prove it. The restaurant has returned to its original home on level two, leaving space upstairs for private functions and a casual bar area on the ground floor. The new decor encourages a more relaxed dining experience, with bare wooden tables and funky red seating, and has relaxed the prices to match. "
The real looker though is the cocktail lounge replete with gorgeous love seats and sultry lighting where the skilled bartenders will whip up French martinis and coconut daiquiris. Cruise through lunch or dinner with the set menu option comprising two courses for $60 or three for $70. Start with an entree of spicy prawn dumplings on a bed of pea shoots and bean sprouts served with an Asian dipping sauce, followed by the likes of roast lamb backstrap with kipfler potatoes, baby carrots, rosemary and thyme jus. Note: check the website for the cruise ship timetable if you don't want your views tainted by a towering wall of shameless cruise passengers.

Emma: What a truly special experience. Cruise is one of those gems complete with location, great service and some of the best food around. Try the Kingfish carpaccio to start, lamb loin mousakka (much more interesting than it sounds) and then the chefs own take on baklava to finish. What I loved was that the view is open to any diner at any table (not reserved for a select few) - an aspect key to the Cruise dining experience. To boot, the service was exactly what I like - only there when you need! (11 January 2008)
