Editorial Review
If you are after an inexpensive night out with some mates, look no further. Il Baretto is renowned for simple, delicious Italian food at extremely reasonable prices. Situated on the tree-lined corner of Bourke and Arthur Streets, the restaurant’s large bi-folding doors and windows bring the outside in. The room is long and narrow, with an open kitchen separating the front and back rooms.
The kitchen is always cranking, whether it’s bacon and eggs at breakfast, paninis for the lunch crowd, or preparing for the inevitably busy dinner service. The dinner menu contains many favourites, the pappardelle served with a rich duck ragu or risotto served with pesto e pollo (basil pesto with chicken) or porcini mushrooms. Pasta dishes are a mix and match offering with spaghetti or penne available to be matched with a variety of sauces, including the piquant arabiata or a traditional bolognese. The fast-paced nature of Il Baretto does mean there are a couple of sacrifices; they don’t take bookings or credit cards, but they do let you bring a bottle of vino - the pub across the road is a great place to grab a bottle or a beer while you wait.

kylie: The food was great, the price very good. My big gripe is the service. Our table was pointed out to us, we were not shown to it. We had an entree and our order for mains was taken and were brought to us before we had finished our entree. We had just finished our mains when they were gone and we were asked if we wanted dessert, tea/coffee. We didnt really want dessert but felt we may be asked to leave if we didnt as it was clear they wanted our table. our bill was brought before we finishd dessert (16 July 2007)
John Gordon: il baretto is a local restaurant to where I live. A quick 15 minute pasta on the run at lunch or a more relaxed dinner with frinds-This place is so popular you really have to get there early. 6.30pm is best-you may have to wait 20 minutes in the pub across the road but its worth it. The floor staff rock (10 June 2007)
