Editorial Review
Owners Zahi Azzi and Christien Davall have managed to incorporate all the best bits of Moroccan and Middle Eastern culture into this beautiful, modern Balmain restaurant. The open plan of the dining area has you feeling that you’re dining al fresco and you might expect to see a star-packed desert sky twinkling above. A feast for the eyes as well as the stomach, if you tire of admiring middle-Eastern treasures you can always pick up a crayon and create your own work of art on your butcher-paper covered table.
Kazbah is predominantly a dinner restaurant, however the breakfast menu, available on weekends, is a welcome departure from traditional bacon and eggs and you’ll be hard-pressed to decide between the exotic menu items. Try the breakfast tagine where spicy minced lamb is deliciously combined with sucuk, fetta, spinach, capsicum, caramelised onion, tomato and two eggs still cooking within when it reaches your table. The dinner menu throws up more tough choices. The seafood assiette (a selection of prawn, scallop and calamari morsels combined with middle-Eastern flavours) is a taste explosion and the grilled lamb is a perfect combination of spicy meat flavour balanced by feta-filled zucchini flowers. Don’t wait for an excuse to eat at this wonderful restaurant.
