Editorial Review
Pam: Girl on the Loose is billed as an "observational documentary" but its titular (no pun intended) star is Pamela Anderson. "I would never consider doing a reality show", she emphasises early on (while shaving her legs in the bathtub).
Think you've seen all that Pamela has to offer? Think again. It turns out there's something left to expose: her private life. Although she's made a point of excluding her children from the show, we see Pam's brother Jerry - who appears wearing a cap and sunglasses - her mother, her dogs, and the inside of her home.
What we don't see is Pamela's face: she only ever appears in long shots, soft focus or dim lighting (sometimes all three).
Episode one introduces us to Pam's life, her glamorous parties, and her activism with PETA, all framed in an innovative style that sets it apart from the usual celebrity trash: the screen is often split into frames, pink scrawls appearing across the image. But it doesn't disguise the fact that this is fundamentally reality TV, and if you're not a fan of the genre you won't think much of Pam's effort.
Though she plays the part of the buxom blonde bimbo, Pamela actually has a very sharp mind - and she's also incredibly charming, as those who saw her recent stint on Big Brother will know. Girl on the Loose is not the "observational documentary" it claims, but it is a clever attempt to consolidate Pam's famous image.
Pam: Girl on the Loose premieres on E! on Tuesday, September 2, at 9:30pm.

Pamdemonium: Go Pammy! One of only a few that can make millions out of flicking hair, flashing surgically-enhanced cleavage and acting like a bimbo. (02 September 2008)
