Editorial Review
Is there any occupation that will escape the wrath of reality TV? After exhausting the fashion and cooking professions, American networks have decided to create shows about practically anything - from tattooing, motorcycles, bounty hunting, and now tanning: Sunset Tan follows the staff and events of an LA tanning salon chain.
In the first instalment of the second season, Janelle, manager of the Santa Monica store, decides to leave for Las Vegas. Things are looking up for Erin when she is chosen as the replacement, while she also embarks upon a relationship that later gets the blessing of her father.
Elsewhere, the "Olly girls", Holly and Molly, ask owners Devin and Jeff for their jobs back, and Nick, after breaking up with Ania, endeavours to get her back - even it's by drastic means.
Resembling Laguna Beach rather than an occupational series, the tanning salon itself takes a backseat to the immature love-lives of the brainless staff. Come to think of it, apart from a few models being sprayed the tanning salon serves only the purpose of showing off semi-clad women. Among the completely irreverent cuts to the beach, you begin hoping this series is all a trick mockumentary, but unfortunately it's not, and unfortunately these are the real staff of a functioning business. This reality show gets it horribly wrong.
Sunset Tan airs on E! on Tuesday, September 9, at 10pm.
