Dirt follows the ruthless, power-wielding editor-in-chief of tabloid magazine Dirt Now, Lucy Spiller (Courtney Cox), who thrives on uncovering and exposing celebrity scandals.
In this instalment, Lucy sends Don (Ian Hart) out to photograph celebutante Milan Carlton (Elisabeth Harnois), who has landed herself in jail after a few too many DUI's. Carlton soon arranges an interview with Lucy to put a positive spin on her brazen life. Meanwhile, Willa (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Farber (Ryan Eggold) investigate the feud between a washed up comedian and his estranged daughter.
Just like previous chapters, the celebrity stories are inspired by real events. This episode sees Tom Arnold as an allusion to Alec Baldwin, who left an abusive phone message for his daughter last year. While the name Milan Carlton is derived from Paris Hilton, with Milan being the name of a European city and Carlton being the name of a hotel. While this is witty, the series would be better served by more inventive characters.
However, Hart as the schizophrenic paparazzo Don Konkey steals the show and makes those around him appear flat and one-dimensional - the scenes between Lucy and Don are a treat.
Dirt, is a glossy, eye-catching look at the world of tabloid journalism, but unfortunately, like the tabloid magazines it depicts, it lacks any real depth.
Dirt airs on Movie Extra on Sunday, October 12, at 8:30pm.
