CSI is one of the most reliable series on television: even though it's now in its eighth season you can always count on it for a solid hour of entertainment.
In this week's instalment - the last produced before the US writers' strike - two people die during the annual Las Vegas rodeo. Bullrider Cody Latshaw (Patrick McGaw) is found dead hours after his bull almost kills him; elsewhere, Cody's prostitute ex-girlfriend Tiffany (Whitnee Patterson) is killed in an apparent hit and run.
When Nick and Greg discover Cody's car has dents on its bumper, the CSIs suspect that he ran Tiffany down, then died when he attempted to ride his bull again. But the case is complicated when the team finds some extremely unusual equipment among Cody's possessions that suggests there's a much more twisted reason for his death.
When the investigators eventually unravel the mystery the resolution is a little too contrived, but the plot is nevertheless compelling enough to keep fans and casual viewers hooked. Keep an eye out for folk superstar Jewel, who pops up to sing at the rodeo.
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation airs on the Nine Network on Sunday, May 18, at 8:30pm.
