Editorial Review
Carson Kressley would do anything for exposure, as he demonstrated with his absolutely pointless appearance on Big Brother. The man seeks attention shamelessly and flamboyantly, so it's no surprise that his new series How to Look Good Naked is more about him than the ladies he's making over.
In this episode Carson's charge is Marlo, a 28-year-old diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma four years ago. She's now cancer-free, but treating the disease upset her metabolism and dramatically changed the shape of her body; though she's healthy, Marlo is deeply dissatisfied with her appearance.
The rest of the episode unrolls according to the usual formula: Marlo thinks she's ugly, Marlo confronts her image issues, Marlo gets a new wardrobe and a fresh hairdo and Marlo starts to believe she's gorgeous (eventually she's so confident about her appearance she poses nude for a photographer).
What makes How to Look Good Naked different from most makeover shows is that Marlo herself is completely irrelevant: the episode is more concerned with Carson tossing clothes around. It's only a matter of minutes before his "campy gay man who knows about fashion" shtick starts to wear thin.
How to Look Good Naked airs on the Ten Network on Monday, May 19, at 8pm.
